Velcro

Our little buddy passed away yesterday afternoon and we’re all completely heartbroken. Rest in peace, Velcro. 🕯️

We adopted Velcro in 2017 right after moving to a new place. The shelter estimated that he was around 8 years old and chose his name because of how closely he clung to the staff. He’d already been returned by previous owners who reported mystery medical issues. We learned soon after that he had diabetes, which we managed well for years.

His health has been slowly declining for a while but it’s impossible to really be prepared for when they go. Right now I’m just grateful that he wasn’t alone when it was time.

In all honestly, I haven’t really let myself think about it yet. Since yesterday I’ve spent every waking moment making sure my brain is constantly hyper-focused on some distraction—I’m writing this quickly so I don’t linger on anything too long.

He was such a little ball of joy and his absence has our home feeling gray. I’ve been hoping so strongly for snow for months and the fact that it’s currently blanketing everything feels more bleak and desolate than tranquil and calm.

All our love, little guy. You were the best early-morning company and the sweetest spirit and we’re so lucky for the time we had. 🐾❤️
