New Year 2024

Happy New Year! And happy belated Christmas. I fell into the upside down but we’re back. 🕯️

I get sick every Christmas like clockwork—it’s the time of year when Chuck is able to work slightly less, which I truly believe sends a subconscious message to my brain that it’s finally fine to fall apart.

The silver lining is that all the kids had, at worst, bad colds, so at least we weren’t all crawling around on the floor together like wraiths. Weirdly, I also lost my voice, which severely inhibited my ability to lament.

But it feels like I’ve crawled out of the rubble. I’m a mild mess (what’s new) but ready to go. I already touched on this a bit, but there are a lot of things I’m looking forward to with my practice in the new year.

The first is to put slightly less pressure on myself to constantly absorb new knowledge and to nurture and cultivate the skills I’m most drawn to. I took a knitting class this year and while I’m still more inclined to reach for cross stitch, it inspired me to get back into knotwork.

I’m fully in love with Lenormand. It’s so satisfying to see a story unfold in a grand tableau. I’m fortunate that while I’ve used my Memento Mori by @blackandthemoon as an oracle for years, the cards transition seamlessly into Lenormand and I can’t wait to build a personal deck. I’ve also been experimenting with a new, non-card form of divination that I’ve wanted to try for years.

I’ve learned so much working with Expedite and I feel like we’re going to make a lot of progress together this year.

My main altar in particular continues to be a huge source of joy and comfort—it’s really done wonders for my mental health—and I’m excited to continue creating there.

Also this year, I’m putting more energy toward Patreon and personal blogs. As always, I want to make sure I’m sharing authentic work and not being steered by a desire to please Lord Algorithm. I had fun trying out audio for our Advent series which got cut short in the last week. I owe you guys and have newsletters and gifts forthcoming.

Right now I’m praying for snow, it’s been a real bummer without it.
