May witch's ladder

I made a witch’s ladder for May! The last week was so lovely that I wanted to capture that energy and carry it through to midsummer. 🌸

I followed the same procedure as last year and reused the willow base I wove in January (I shared an Instagram reel of the process at the time). Using a similar ritual as I would to create a ladder with rope, I braided my branches and formed them into a wreath before securing the circle with twine.

I decided to go for a whimsical, “Midsummer Night's Dream” mood, so for this version, I started by removing all the catkins (fuzzy buds). I reinforced the branches with twine and cleansed the wreath in smoke.

Then I wove in some cotoneaster and asparagus leaves, which always look super playful. I finished with dried pink roses and a few sprigs of basil since it’s the most abundant thing in my garden right now.

I also shared a quick reel of the whole process this morning.🌿

We were finally able to bed out most of our plants this weekend and I’m putting the finishing touches on my Mary garden. So far I’m most in love with my columbine but I’m hoping for moonflower blossoms this year.🌝
