Since I was able to score fresh branches this week, I wanted to share how easy it is to create the base of a simple witch’s ladder. All you need to know is how to braid (and if you don’t, I’ll show you🖤).

Pussy willow is perfect for weaving because it’s SO flexible. And once you have your shape set, it’ll dry in place beautifully. I used mine last year through spring and summer.

If this is your first time seeing one of my ladders, I create them as one of my favorite forms of knot magic (right after cross stitch). While you can instill intent as you weave and leave it bare, the braids also make a perfect base for inserting additional textiles, plants, charms, etc. during a full spell or ritual.

Once I’ve charged and blessed my ladder accordingly, I keep the “wreath” on my altar until it’s served its purpose. Forming a wreath also isn’t necessary—I’ve hung them straight down the wall. Since these are so solid, they’re perfect for hearthcraft (as opposed to traditional, rosary-like ladders, which are often carried or buried).

This month, I’m going to be sharing a more comprehensive look at knot work for patrons, including the creation of a personal lesser rite (which works especially well for ongoing pieces, such as cross stitch projects, knits, quilts, etc.).🌿
