Here’s how to make protection packets, another of my favorite folk charms. They’re created using prayer cards and a stapler (and are perfect for hearth-blessing).🕯️

Traditionally, you would start with two identical holy cards related to your intention, but you could also choose two different cards that work well together (or a single card matched with a plain back). Place the two cards together (with the main images facing out) and staple three sides. I like a stapler because you can say a prayer or affirmation with each crunch, but tape, glue, stitches, etc. also work.

In the open end of your packet, insert your herbs, flowers, trinkets, etc., and seal the final side. If you’re using plants, it’s a good idea to first wrap them in tissue or wax paper to keep all the crumbs in.

I created my charm using holy cards of St. Anthony. Renowned in folk magic, St. Anthony is called upon frequently not only in recovering lost items but also as a performer of miracles. His gifts in “finding” can be extended to locate memories and lost love. He is exceptionally generous with a variety of petitions and appears frequently in folk spells. For added protection against darkness, I added mugwort and rosemary.

Your packets can be hung over the entrances to your home or tucked into corners that need the extra energy. They can also be used as a traditional, empowered prayer card and placed in a book, wallet, or bag.🌞
