Here’s how to make a mini witch’s ladder to harness the strength of mermaids.🧜🏼‍♀️

Mermaids are experts in knot magic. You’ve likely seen images of them out in the ocean or hanging out on sea rocks, braiding and unbraiding their crazy-long hair. In doing so, they’re able to employ the wind to direct (and lure) passing ships.

You can generate the qualities of fearlessness, confidence, and feminine strength into a small ladder to use as an altar charm or carry with you.

You will need three lengths of cord (I usually cut about 30 inches):

- twine soaked in salt or lake water
- strip of silk
- a braid to represent your hair (if you don’t want to use actual hair, I recommend three strands of embroidery floss in your hair color)

And three charms or organic items:

- one to represent the sea (I used seashells)
- one to represent beauty (I used lily petals)
- one to represent the moon (I used a beautiful silver anchor I received from my girlfriend @milissa10470 🖤)

First, you’ll need to make your hair braid. Cut three lengths of embroidery floss (or another thin cord) that matches your hair color. Weave together in a basic three-strand braid. The resulting braid is your third main cord.

Gather your twine, silk, and hair-braid together and tie a knot at the top. Tape it down to your altar (or floor).

Braid the three cords together. Whenever it feels natural, string one of your charms onto the twine and continue braiding.

As always, make sure you are relaxed and focused. Summon words of confidence and meditate on your strongest qualities. Envision yourself overcoming an obstacle or owning a situation.

When you’ve reached the end of your braid, make another knot. Recite a prayer or invocation. You can call on Amphitrite or Mami Wata, or meditate on Psalm 23.
