Time for a new witch’s ladder! It was hard to let go of the one I made for midsummer, but the branches and flowers finally became too brittle (as they do) so I needed to recharge.🌾

Lammas (August 1st) has always been a favorite since it’s the first of the three harvest festivals, leading us into early autumn and wrapping up with Halloween.

I used wheat as my main correspondence. One of the seven sacred grains, wheat was used often this time of year in baking bread (lammas means “loaf mass”) to store for winter. Its golden color is associated with bounty and abundance, a perfect altar dressing for the harvest season.

I created the base (and “knots”) by braiding branches and connecting the two ends in the circle (swipe to see). I then lit some incense and spent a quiet hour weaving wheat throughout and thinking about what I’d like to accomplish this fall.

I’m looking forward to trying a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch recipe for the first time this weekend. (Not bread, but bread-adjacent.)🌞
