Knot Magic

Since I started sharing aspects of my practice, one of the most common requests I receive is for information on knot magic.🌞 As many of you know, there isn’t much material on knotwork available—you’ll find versions of it referenced in books on broader subjects, but not often as a topic of its own.

It’s a tricky theme to tackle because there are so many different types of knot magic across history and culture that are likewise utilized and harnessed in unique ways. What’s beautiful about knotwork (and textile art in general) is that while styles and rituals are always changing and evolving, instilling power and emotion into our clothing, jewelry, and bedding is about as ancient as it gets. Fortunately, this art is accessible across so many mediums—cross stitch, knitting, quilting, weaving, sewing, macrame, hair braiding…it’s a long list!

As an introduction for those who’d like to start practicing this sacred medium, I created a resource that will give you an overall look at the general applications, definitions, and (most importantly) an exercise in crafting your own ritual. This includes establishing a personal rite to incorporate into your work as well as directions for using this approach to make a protective door charm (pictured above). It’s available now for Patreon members (to learn more, please visit www.patreon.com/gritchenwitch).

I hope this little guidebook is helpful as you begin to develop a personal method for crafting magic through the ancient art of knots.🌿
