Here’s a simple beauty mirror ritual you can perform during a full moon (perfect for the cold moon this evening!).🌝

In magic, mirrors have the power to reflect as well as absorb. You’ve probably heard a ton of mirror-based superstitions, including that breaking one results in bad luck. The ancient Greeks, for example, believed that a person’s soul was revealed in the reflection of a pool of water.

Using this idea, you can draw down the moon’s essence into a mirror and reflect her energy back onto you. While this can be accomplished during any full moon, there’s a special, shimmering, contemplative depth in December’s cold moon, which lends especially well to beauty magic (because, as you know, ✨beauty comes from the inside✨).

The ritual:

On the night of a full moon, add an open mirror to your moon altar (or any place it can absorb the light). If possible, try to find a pocket mirror or makeup compact you can open and close. If you’d prefer to charge up a larger one, or don’t have one that folds, have a cloth on hand to drape over it once you’ve finished.

Allow the mirror to rest for as long as possible overnight. I like to try and grab it before sunrise.

The following evening, place the mirror on your nightstand and absorb her beauty, luminance, and psychic ability as you sleep. Over the course of the month, you can pop open your mirror anytime you need a hit of confidence or use it to apply makeup or skincare products by blending directly into your skin.

🌕 In this morning’s article for patrons, I explain a little bit more about the concept of drawing down the moon and how it relates to an Appalachian folk practice.

Happy cold moon!❄️
