My altar feels very “mountain witch” right now which I’m totally into for fall.

I made a new ladder for the season even though I guess you could call it a wreath at this point. I created the base in the spring using willow branches that I wove together and formed into a circle. Once it was time for a new ladder, I removed the dried flowers and cleansed the branches, and they still look beautiful seven months later.

I’ve been in love with the look of sorghum recently, so I wove it throughout, which served as my ritual. I finished with stems of wheat—it really screams “harvest” to me. (Swipe for a closer look.)

In addition to the wreath and the typical seasonal earthy stuff, I have dahlias for beauty and dignity (they also have a spooky vibe with the black dahlia association), my offering dish, my folk Mary and mini Mike, the locket for my ancestors, and three little crystal dragon heads (from @thehazelwitch), which I’ve grown to love as they remind me of my three boys.

I’ve noticed over time that my altar becomes somewhat linked to my mental state. When it’s neglected and dusty, it’s a sure sign that I’m ungrounded and distracted. As I’ve mentioned in the past, not only is my altar a workstation, but also a place for me to recharge and pray. Spending time adorning this space puts me in a good place for the start of a new season.

Happy October!
