Here's a simple knotwork spell that I like to use when I'm in the mood for cord magic but don't have a specific intention in mind. I'll braid during the first quatrain and make a knot for each subsequent verse, pulling the rope tight on the last word of each line. In this way, you can ask for blessings, protection, and give thanks from your heart without worrying about having the right words:

Braid and coil, rope and twine—
a woven emerald ivy vine.
Sailors’ wind and dryad hair,
woven in an earnest prayer.

A knot for each intention set,
for graces not envisioned yet,
to block a new or older threat.
A knot for thanks lest I forget.

With this ladder I beget
a witch’s worthy coronet.

This works easily for injecting some intention into knotwork of all kinds—knitting, crochet, cross stitch, quilting, sewing...anything that can be woven and twisted, really. The rhythm of needlework is a great conductor for conjuring tranquility, security, beauty, and endurance.
