I've been thinking a lot about Jane Eyre lately. Jane Eyre was, surprisingly, a book that eluded me through high school and five years of majoring in English. Shortly after college, I stumbled into a message board that was discussing the book, and wondered why I never read it.
I got sucked in pretty quickly and obsessed for a while after. I loved the gloominess, the twisted romance, and that Jane was a symbol of a solitary, self-reliant girl and also crazy in love. I loved the mad, creepy wife wreaking havoc in the attic.
I also loved the 2011 movie. The tone and atmosphere were perfectly bleak and haunting. (Plus, Fassbender.)
I stitched the chestnut tree that was struck by lightening on the night of Jane's engagement, before everything falls apart. I just realized that this is the third tree I've added overall so far, which makes sense for me.
I've gotten a few emails asking me which supplies I use for my stitching, which is really exciting. I love hearing from anyone who's stopped by!
I'll try to include floss colors and brands with future posts. I usually go for Gentle Arts—they lay beautifully and the colors are exactly my type: dusty and primitive. I also like Crescent Colours cotton for the same reasons. There are some more details about my fabric, count, etc. on my about page.
My weekends have been so cozy and easy this winter. There's probably been a bit too many coffees and big Sunday breakfasts, but I'm always happy staying in.
