This is the third post in my three-part Midsummer Ritual series.

MIDSUMMER RITUAL PART 1: SUMMER SIMMER POT
MIDSUMMER RITUAL PART 2: WITCH'S LADDER

Here’s a basic rundown of the moon water portion of my midsummer ritual:

  • Charge water under the full moon

  • Use charged water to make a simmer pot

  • Use infused water from simmer pot to bake cookies

With the addition of the witch’s ladder, made from charged cords, there’s currently a lot of moon energy going on at home. (It probably explains all the feral children in my kitchen.) The ritual came full circle with the addition of these moon water cookies, which honestly turned out great. I’m not exactly a “baker,” so I attribute the success to Juno (it’s also a really good recipe).

I mentioned in part one, after making my simmer pot, that I reserved a bit of the water (after it had been simmering for about an hour). I only ended up using about 3 teaspoons, so it doesn’t take much.

I followed this recipe from Parsley and Icing almost exactly, substituting the rose water for my infused lemon & rosemary moon water: Lemon Rose Water Cookies by Parsley and Icing

I used a basic circle cutter to symbolize the moon (also because neither Target nor Bed Bath & Beyond had ANY cookie cutters, wtf).

I was also nervous about the amount of moon water since it was really heavy on the rosemary, so I only used about 2 1/2 teaspoons instead of the 3 3/4 the recipe calls for. There was the slightest (slightest) hint of rosemary, so I’m happy with the amount, but 3 3/4 would’ve been fine too.

Admittedly, we’re all not big on white chocolate, but I was thinking that orange and milk chocolate would also be amazing.

I made sure to include a few on my alter the following morning.

I touched on this in part one, but this ritual was really healing. Since my days are truly chaotic, it was super-grounding to turn off autopilot and take brief moments to create something.

It’s even better when that something turns out well! These were so light and buttery and had the perfect amount of lemon.

Thank you for following my midsummer ritual! I’m already looking forward to Lammas—probably the best time to try baking bread for the first time.😬
